Inclusion Conference 2023 (澳門聖公會中學)

The term “twice exceptional” or “dual exceptional” refers to intellectually gifted children who have one or more learning disabilities or disorder. Twice-exceptional children think and process information differently. Like many other gifted children, they may be more emotionally and intellectually sensitive than children of average intelligence. At the same time, due to uneven development or their learning differences, twice exceptional kids struggle with what other kids do easily. Because of their unique abilities and characteristics, twice exceptional students need a special combination of education programs and counseling support.

Some common characteristics of twice exceptional students may include outstanding critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Above average sensitivity, causing them to react more intensely to sounds, tastes, smells, etc. Usually they possess strong sense of curiosity so it’s sometimes difficult to taking care of them amid a large population size in class. Yet, there special educational needs have to be addressed in order to provide with a comprehensive whole-person development. The launch of Inclusion Conference at Macau Anglican College on 21 April 2023 fit this theme and served the purpose of getting to know more of strategies applied to take care of students with learning diversities.
